Cardinal
Newman School chose MK Lockers in September1997 to replace
their damaged and out of date lockers.
It was not a sudden
decision but over time the school became more aware of the
Health and Safety issues facing the students who were carrying
bulky and heavy bags through the school.
It was also apparent that the school building was getting
damaged as a result of the constant movement of students
belongings.
Theft was also a consideration, and staff realised
that a comprehensive locker system would reduce the incidence
of this.
To take advantage of cost savings, Cardinal Newman School
ordered as many lockers as possible.
In total they bought
1218 compartments in the first delivery which included replacement
doors and locks.
Cardinal Newman School also decided on various
coloured doors to create a cheerful environment.
Peter Haddon, Deputy Head Teacher, helped to organise a massive
student fund raising
|
sponsored
walk, which along with funds raised by the PTA, met the cost
of the installation.
The students are asked for a £5 deposit on a locker
as a protection against damage and vandalism.
Lockers are
numbered rather than named, which helps to prevent any targeted
vandalism.
Mr Haddon maintains that the students are proud of their lockers
because they helped to finance them in the first place and
because of the organisation they bring to everyones
lives at school
